Another day, another something or other
Saturday night after dinner with Jeff and Jeri-Lynn, Tom and I went back to my place and proceeded to watch the rest of Martian Successor Nadesico. Since I'd only shown him the first disc (4 episodes), this meant that we watched 5 more discs for a total of 22 more episodes. We were up until 7 am. I was very tired by the time we were done, and Tom of course wanted to stand around and talk and talk and so I just said, "I'm going to bed," and turned off the lights. With certain people, you just gotta be blunt. ^_^
And I think he accidentally took the cds I'd bought at Half Price Books with him.
Sunday I went up to Sky's place. He showed me Earth and Beyond, yet another online game to get addicted to. Not sure if I want to buy this one or not. Of course, not only is Asheron's Call 2 due out soon, but also the Sims Online is in beta now. That one might be fun to try. ^_^
We went to Half Price but Sky was good and didn't get any dvds. He bought a few cds, including two Ultra Vivid Scene cds that I thought he already had. One of them is my favorite of theirs, has some great songs on it like Staring At The Sun and Special One.
Tonight on the way home from work I stopped at the store. I made a nice dinner, something I rarely do... normally I eat junk food or nothing at all after work, eat nothing the next day before going to work, and then I'm starving by six pm, when I normally eat what we like to call "lunch". But tonight I cooked some wild salmon with lemon, garlic, and some Louisiana meat spice. Turned out pretty good. And I had a salad -- iceburg lettuce, roma tomatos, blue cheese dressing, and sunflower seeds. I made another salad sealed in tupperware for work tomorrow.
I watched Crest of the Stars #2 last night. This show is like the antithesis of Nadesico, in that Nadesico is a space opera story told in perpetual fast-forward, where things happen so fast that if you blink you miss entire plot threads, while Crest of the Stars is developing at such a slow pace that I wonder if they'll ever get anywhere with the plot. But it's an interesting series, at least.
I also watched GTO #1. Let me tell you, the anime is a great deal tamer than the manga, and from what I hear it still was nearly taken off the air in Japan multiple times for being too provacative. But in this case, tamer is a good thing -- a very good thing indeed. I have six volumes of the manga and I've only managed to read the first three so far, and partly that's because the protagonist (I won't call him 'the hero') is so thoroughly depraved and perverted that it's hard to sympathize with him. For sure, he occasionally demonstrates that he has a good heart, but his character flaws are so huge that it's hard to see past them. The anime tones down his character considerably, which leaves us with a character that is still more perverted than your typical protagonist, but someone who is much more likeable, someone you can actually root for.
I can't help but think that there's real potential in a fan fiction crossover of GTO and Golden Boy.
So anyway.
