Today's Song: L'amour Detruit by My Dying Bride
You won't find a more self-consciously gloomy or depressing metal band on the planet. I've known of My Dying Bride's reputation for a while now, but I hadn't really checked them out before last week. In my mind they fit into a death or black metal category of some sort -- but actually, the vocals are neither death grunts or black metal screams, but far more normal (if deeply moody) "clean" vocals. This band is more properly described as a doom metal band, following in the footsteps of bands like Trouble I guess. They're also more goth metal than most of the bands I listen to that bear that label (Nightwish, Within Temptation, Leaves' Eyes, Evanescense -- none of which are pure goth metal really).
I downloaded this song last week and it's been stuck in my head for days. I know some people make fun of this band for its gothic, gloomy, doomy approach to metal, but I can't get enough of the sad melody in this song. I guess I'll have to pick up the whole cd. ^_^
The song title translates to "the love destroyed" or also to "love destroys".
