Today's Song: Tir Nan Og by Tuatha de Danann
Since I mentioned them yesterday, today I bring you the happy Celtic metal sounds of Brazilian band Tuatha de Danann. Don't ask me why a Celtic metal band exists in Brazil -- after all another of the best of these style of bands is Elvenking, who hail from Italy. Tuatha de Danann are unusual for employing a lot of flute, mandolin, and happy Celtic dance music along with a few death metal vocals. Thankfully most of the vocals are normal -- but who'd have thought to add death metal growls to happy Celtic music? (Well -- again, whether it makes sense or not, I should add that a lot of folk metal has links to death metal -- even Irish folk metal masters Cruachan also employ some death metal growls.)
This would all be moot as far as my song of the day goes if you couldn't get ahold of Tuatha de Danaan's music. And, really, they are quite hard to find. I swear one of their cds usued to be available on Amazon, but I could be wrong. At the moment, they're not on Amazon, they're not on iTunes, they're not on eMusic. However you can download some song at their website. These include Tir Non Og and Dance of the Little Ones, two of the songs you can find videos for at Youtube.
(*EDIT* It seems you can't actually download these songs from their web site after all -- I think the files have been removed or something.
In the meantime after a long web search I found their current cd available for download at rapidshare.net (a file sharing/downloading site -- you can use it for free but it's slower and there's a short wait before download). I can testify that this works and is free, but it's likely illegal so I can't recommend it. Mind you, I haven't found any way to actually buy this cd yet -- it's not available at iTunes, eMusic, Amazon.com, Ebay, or The Omega/The End Records. It does appear to be available through Gemm.com, so you do have at least one option for purchasing this cd.
The video for Dance of the Little Ones might remind you of Spinal Tap's performance of Stonehenge -- it includes a dancing midget dressed as an elf.
