I had a song in my head yesterday. It was a great song, one that I really liked, one that I've had in my collection for a while. One that I hadn't listened to in a long time. It was a perfect song to put on my next collection of music.
And I can't for the life of me remember what it was. Today is a different day, and I didn't bother to write anything down, so it's lost, maybe forever.
There's this image a lot of people have of writers and other creative people, that you can sit yourself down and say "Okay, time to be inspired!" and then you write or draw or whatever and the inspiration just comes. And maybe sometimes it DOES work that way. But I think that everyone has ideas all the time, but most people don't pause to write them down. Writing down all of your ideas as they occur to you is key to capturing that elusive inspiration.
It's been a strange day for me. I was feeling kind of out of it and unispired. I watched some football, went out to get some stuff at Home Depot and QFC, made dinner, watched some television. The Simpsons weren't on because of baseball, which I didn't want to watch. About that time I was feeling extremely tired, so I decided to go to bed early. 9 pm is probably early for anybody, but especially for me. I usually stay awake until 4 am.
I even had a few lines of dialogue that I wanted to write down, but I was sooo exhausted that I just went straight to bed.
And after about two hours I'd managed to drift off twice only to wake back up -- and then I was wide awake and couldn't sleep again. So I got up, still feeling kind of listless. I watched more tv, played some Everquest, ate, watched two episodes of Great Teacher Onizuka.
And I'm still wide awake, and suddenly I'm feeling inspired again, ready to do some writing. Only it's 4 am now. I really need to be getting back to bed. ^_^ Anyway, I'm not sure I can remember that dialogue that was in my head earlier. Because sometimes, you feel creative, but you can't figure out how to channel that creativity. So maybe I'll just go back to sleep?
Wish I could remember that song. It was a really good song. At least, I think it was.
