Today's Song: Father of Light by Adiastasia

One of the things I did today was download a bunch of free tracks from Bombworks Records. This is a heavy metal music label that specializes in Christian metal. I've been researching modern Christian metal bands and a lot of the better ones are signed to Bombworks records, so I checked them out.

Bombworks is the label for My Silent Wake, which is a United Kingdom death/doom metal band featuring Ian Arkley. I own one of their cds, so I already own something on this label. Ian was a member of Seventh Angel, a thrash metal band from the late 1980's/early 1990's that I liked quite a bit (I own both of their studio releases). After they broke up he formed a doom metal band called Ashen Mortality, and was briefly a member of death/doom metal band Paramacium (which I also own). He's also in a gothic doom side project called Century Sleeper. So, basically, Ian has been around a long time and has influenced a lot of other people, and I like his stuff.

Anyway... as it turns out, Bombworks is also the label that's releasing Ukrainian folk/death metal band Holy Blood's cds, and they have released cds from bands from Indonesia, Brazil, Finland, Poland, Panama, and Puerto Rico. You have to respect a label that signs bands from all over the world like that. They also promote their music well -- their cds are distributed all over the world, and you can find their stuff at CD Baby, Amazon.com, The End/Omega Records, and on iTunes. They're a label like Tooth and Nail that gets respect in regular music circles because, aside from carrying Christian bands, they act like a normal music label.

Anyway... aside from My Silent Wake, Century Sleeper, and Holy Blood, I don't know how many of these bands I'm actually that interested in. A lot of them are death metal or black metal ("holy unblack metal, as Christian black metal is often called) and I'm not much of a fan of that style of music, unless there happens to be a great deal of melody to the music itself (melodic death metal, folk metal, viking metal, etc.). But Adiastasia is a power metal band from Brazil, very much in the vein of fellow Brazillians Angra (who I like very much). So what the heck, they're on iTunes and they have videos on Youtube, I'll make them my song of the day. They're pretty good, if you like power metal. ^_^ They certainly have the things that power metal absolutely requires -- speed, and a vocalist with great range.

The video's kind of funny, because there's none of the flash and big production that usually goes with power metal. This is just a bunch of guys out in the garage. ^_^
