Today's Song: Ijus by Bugotak
Last.fm recommends another winner to me. For fans of Yat-Kha, it recommended (well, actually, someone posted the recommendation on the Yat-Kha page) Siberian band Bugotak. They are similar in concept to Yat-Kha, mixing traditional Turkish/Siberian songs with modern music, and playing both modern guitars and synthesizers and traditional Turkish / Siberian / Central Asian Steppes instruments. Bugotak means 'Bull Mountain'. They draw not only on Turkish Siberian culture, but that of the Manchu and Evenki (Tungus) people.
No, they aren't on iTunes. You can download a lot of their music for free from their Last.fm pages, though, and you can listen to Bugotak's songs there. (Their Siberianized version of House of the Rising Sun, for example -- great fun!).
All the tracks from their cd Coverlar are free. You can download them at this last.fm link. This includes many of their cover tunes -- Metallica's Nothing Else Matters, Nirvana's Rape Me, The Beatles's Come Together, the Mission Impossible theme. If you're a fan of Yat-Kha's Recovers cd then you have to download this stuff!
All the tracks from the cd Siberian Tales are free. You can download them at this last.fm link. You can also buy this cd from Ebay (to support the artist). Even the Ebay site has three three free mp3 downloads from this cd.
A few tracks from the cd Taiga Man can be downloaded free at this last.fm link. You can purchase the cd from this Ebay link. The Ebay site has a much larger picture of the cd cover. ^_^
At dmusic.com you can download several of their songs as well. The link for I Am The Highway (perhaps the version by Audioslave?) doesn't seem to work, unfortunately.
Cool free folk-rock music from Central Asia. What's not to like?
Bugotak - Ijus
Bugotak - Vorop na polden
Bugotak - Bahat'dzarin (featuring throat singing and weird animation) I'm not sure what to make of this video, but I guarantee you haven't seen another like it! ^_^
