Today's Song: Pensando en ti by Mägo de Oz
You might suspect that I'm prone to like a band named after the Wizard of Oz, that plays folk-rock and folk-metal. And you know what? You'd be right. ^_^ The only thing better might be if they cover one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands from the past.
Mägo de Oz is a Spanish folk metal/progressive metal/rock band -- the kind of band that defies genres and invites comparisons to Kansas, Queen, Jethro Tull, Deep Purple, and other creative classic rock acts. They play a brand of folk metal that has strong Celtic links, and includes violin and flute. Like many (most) folk metal bands, they sing in their native tongue nearly all of the time. It's great stuff, and it's available for download on iTunes.
This includes an absolutely haunting Spanish folk rock version of Dust in the Wind by Kansas, from their 2002 cd Folktergeist. You have to listen to this:
Mägo de Oz - Pensando en ti
Mägo de Oz - Jesus de Chamberi
Mägo de Oz - Diabulus in Musica
They do a nice cover of Somewhere Over the Rainbow too. Well, I suppose you can't call your band "Wizard of Oz" and not cover that song at some point. ^_^
