Something I've been meaning to post for the last week...

...lest Shandower think he has the market cornered on idiot coworkers.

I got a call last week from one of the guys on the dock.

Dock guy: I have a question on this shipment going to Foward Air in Kent.

Me: Yeah?

Dock guy: Do we deliver that to them in Kent, or do they come and pick it up from us?

Me: (Wondering why this has anything to do with me) Well, why wouldn't we deliver it to them? Don't we normally do that? The bill doesn't say will-call on it, does it? (It didn't, I'd already checked.)

Dock guy: Yeah, but sometimes trucking companies like ABF and Roadway pick up their freight from us, so they're a trucking company, so I didn't know if they picked up from us or we delivered to them.

(Okay, sure Roadway picks up freight from us, but that's because they deliver multiple shipments to us every day at the same time. Forward Air is not Roadway or ABF. And anyway, we deliver to Forward Air at least once or twice a week, so why is it suddenly a problem? And why is it MY problem? I rate bills. I don't decide who drives what freight where, that's up to the dock and dispatch. But I guess I'm an office worker on the second floor, so I'm supposed to be able to think for those who can't. Or something.)

Me: Well I would think we'd deliver it to them, but their number is on the freight bill, so why don't you call them and ask?

Dock guy: I did. They didn't know either.

Me: (Exasperated) Look, just ask dispatch, okay? They should know.

Dock guy: Okay, I'll do that.

And as it turns out, we let the freight sit on dock until the next day, when Forward Air called, frantic to know where their shipment was. So we had to have a driver run it up to Kent as fast as possible so that it would make its scheduled flight. Which only goes to prove that I should have pretended to be the all-knowing info master that some people low on brain cells think us office people are, and just told him that we always deliver it to Kent. The very fact that someone was asking such a question made me wonder if there was a reason we wouldn't, so I didn't want to make a decision that wasn't mine to make, even one that seemed obvious, and I copped out. And apparently it had the same affect on whoever he talked to in dispatch.
