Today's Song: White Winter Hymnal by Fleet FoxesI kind of made fun of
miertam when he picked this cd up, because he had no idea what it would be like. I think he must have read a review about it in the store or something, and was influenced by the cover. I kind of make fun of both him and my ex-roommate Tom, because both of them will pick an anime series out at random and buy it just to see if it's any good. For some reason, that makes me laugh, and Miertam buying a music cd at random makes me laugh, even though I've often done exactly that myself and I know
skyoxford has done it often too. But Sky and I are really
into music. No, I don't know what difference that makes... and no, I don't know why that doesn't apply to Tom who is very clearly
into movies if you know him. People don't have to always make sense, you know. ^_^
Anyway, despite me laughing at Miertam, he picked out mostly at random a really, really good cd. Fleet Foxes is a local Seattle band on Subpop records, but they sound nothing like the old Subpop bands of the late 1980's / early 1990's. This is a band with a lush folk sound full of harmony that harkens back to CSNY, Neil Young by himself, the Beach Boys, the Mamas & the Papas, the Byrds, and even more than that, they reach back to medieval melody for some of what they do. At times they sound like a rock band from, say, the time of Henry the 8th.
Very cool stuff. ^_^
