Today's Song: Straight Lines by Silverchair
Do you remember Silverchair? They burst on the scene in the early 90's as a dynamic group of Australian teenage grunge imitators. There were a lot of pretend grunge bands back then that didn't come from Seattle and didn't know the Seattle scene -- Seven Mary Three, Days of the New, Bush, and of course Stone Temple Pilots. You could probably say that STP went on to prove themselves as the most legitimate of the group and the band with the most talent and the most to offer... they moved away from their original grunge-imitator sound and were a powerful hard rock band throughout the 1990's and into the first part of the 2000's.
Silverchair, on the other hand, has continued to make music too, and has also moved well away from their grunge beginnings. These days you might not even label them a hard rock group at all. They were just out of high school when they broke big, after all, and being from Australia has allowed them to continue to grow and develop even though their worldwide recognition has faded. Given that STP doesn't exist anymore, it may well end up being Silverchair that proves to be the best of the "faux grunge" bands. Heck, they've outlasted pretty much everyone, even most of the actual Seattle bands.

Silverchair -- Straight Lines
And if you don't remember their grunge years, these songs will probably sound familiar:
Silverchair -- Tomorrow
Silvechair -- Isreal's Son
Silverchair -- Pure Massacre
As someone said in the comments to one of their old videos, "Kurt Cobain called, he wants his riffs and looks back." ^_^
