I like to cruise Fanfiction.net for new stories to read by looking at the favorite stories of people who have left comments or reviews on my stories -- on the theory that if they like what I write, I might well like other stories that they like. At the very least, I hope to find coherent stories with plots and decent grammar and punctuation.
Even using this as a filter, there are still tons of stories on the site to read, so I also go by the intro to the story to see if it might appeal to me. And sometimes, the little intro blurb just seems sheer genius... or maybe in combination with the story title. Here's a few that caught my eye:
