Today's Song: Cantelowes by Toumani Diabte

I've been perusing NPR's various top ten albums of 2008 lists (there are several on the npr.org website). Invariably there is some brilliant music represented -- some that I was already quite familiar with. The CD that [livejournal.com profile] miertam picked out at random, Fleet Foxes, appears on several lists and is #1 on one of them. Vampire Weekend's cd appears on several lists. One of my favorite cds of the last year, Don't Say Anything by Sam Phillips is on one list. I saw one person who listed in a reply to one of the list their own favorite cds of the year, and it included the most recent release from Dengue Fever.

Anyway... here's something from the "I hadn't heard of this guy before now" file. Mali artist Toumani Diabte. This stuff is magic of the sort that makes you wonder "how does one guy plucking strings manage to sound so unearthly beautiful?"
