miko2So yesterday C tells D that he's playing his high school prom/graduation theme song, then he turns up the music for "I Can't Dance".
D says that he graduated many years before that song... in 1976, before C was even born in fact. When I ask what the real theme song is, he says "More Than A Feeling" by Boston.
This lead to a couple of discussions -- one about how long it takes some bands (Boston) to make new albums. I joked that at least Tom Scholtz of Boston produced albums much faster than Axl Rose. (As you may or may not be aware "Guns 'n' Roses" which only contains one of the original members (Rose) actually finally released a new cd this year.)
I also mentioned the band My Bloody Valentine, which is famous for having spent many years working on their follow up to their cd Loveless. They spent advanced money for the new cd on a studio... and then never actually released a new cd. Reportedly their guitarist scrapped several completed albums of material because none of it was good enough.
I looked them up online, and it turns out they are STILL planning to release that long-awaited new cd. The band has gotten back together and performed some shows, and they have plans to finish and release a cd that was mostly recorded around 1996-98.
D also mentioned that Boston would have a harder time making a new cd because their lead singer had committed suicide last year. I looked that up because I hadn't heard about it. Not that this would stop them... their fourth cd, Walk On, did not have Brad Delp's trademark vocals.
Classic rock groups still make money touring of course, and sometimes you get strange combinations of people, such as Jason Bonham drumming for Foreigner or Paul Rogers singing with Queen. So I was curious who the current vocalist for Boston was. And I wasn't disappointed, although I would never in a million years have guessed -- Michael Sweet, former lead vocalist for Christian metal band Stryper.
I really don't know what a Boston cd with him on vocals might sound like....
