OCD, Geekiness, and A Wasted Evening
Jan. 9th, 2009 07:29 amI have a lot of things I want to accomplish or do each evening. I want to write. I want to draw. I'm supposed to be working on the Tai-Pan artist's APA. I have videos to watch (I went to Half Price Books this week and picked up season 1 of Magic Knights Rayearth plus 3 dvds of another series also, on top of what I already have that I haven't yet watched). I want to log in to Second Life and say hi to my friends. I want to play City of Heroes. I need to exercise.
So... what did I do last night? Mostly, I played around with iTunes.
After work I went and got my car tabs. This didn't take too long, but I was prepared to wait a long time and had my iPod. I really like being able to see the album cover while listening to a song, so when I got home I decided to find out how to add album art to those songs on my iPod that didn't have any. iTunes does a pretty poor job of matching up music to the album art, and while I read that there were apps you could download that would help, after reading about them they didn't seem all that promising.
Anyway downloading artwork for a specific cd and importing it to iTunes is easy, if a bit time consuming. I decided to start small and just update the songs on one little 30-song playlist. Then I moved on to another playlist and another... and finally one of the larger ones, which I eventually stopped working on so I could go to bed. I have no doubt that I'll keep doing this sort of thing until every song on my iPod shows the correct album artwork. Along the way I've corrected the names of a few cds that were entered wrong.
At the same time, I've tried to get Genius to work on my iPod but it won't do anything until I turn it on in iTunes first. I was wary of this because I had it turned on for my iTunes on the other computer and it seemed like a complete waste of time, but it's supposed to be pretty cool for the iPod. Anyway, I turned it on last night, but it needs to catalog your entire music collection and update everything... and I have a mind-bogglingly large amount of music imported into iTunes on that computer, well over 25,000 songs. It was still working on it this morning. At least I think it was, it may have gotten hung up at some point, although iTunes itself was working fine.
So... that was my night. I got very little done. I did make lunch for today and then forgot to bring it. /doh!
