Today's Song: Come Along by Yat-Kha
Somebody uploaded a "still photo" video of my favorite Yat-Kha song to Youtube. I love this song not only because it's in English and I can understand it (most of their songs are in their native tongue), but because it combines just about everything that makes Yat-Kha great -- a rollicking song about a rock 'n' roll life on the Steppes of Central Asia, complete with throat singing and electric guitar.
You can't find this on iTunes or eMusic... the only albums of theirs you can download songs from are Dalai Beldiri and Re-Covers... but you can download a live version of this song (in Tuvan) for free from their web site.
Yat-Kha -- Come Along
"At first, the Soviet authorities tried to stop me singing like this, they said it was horrible, and would spoil Tuvan culture. But they had never heard Barry White or Tom Waits or Louis Armstrong." -- Albert Kuvezin
