Today's Song: Halo Dies by Orphaned Land

More than two years after I bought it, Orphaned Land's Mabool remains one of my all-time favorite cds. It would fit on any top ten discs to take to a desert island. I was thinking about that recently... what cds do I consider "perfect discs" as in I can listen to them all the way through over and over and over. I forget all of what I came up with, but the list includes this one, as well as Gretchen Goes to Nebraska by King's X, Eric the Red by Tyr, Darn Floor, Big Bite by Daniel Amos, and probably also Tales From Heaven and Hell by Elis, Dust to Dust by Heavenly, Innocent Blood by Ressurection Band... I dunno. Maybe the best version of Bruckner's 8th symphony I can come up with, probably the better of the stereo Eugene Jochum versions. Maybe also Song of the Travelling Daughter by Abigail Washburn. It's hard to come up with a list of just 10, but if I try to limit it to albums that contain nothing but awesome songs, then that eliminates a lot of stuff that I like... because people rarely produce cds that are top-notch from beginning to end. I'd want to include Tori Amos, I'd want to include Nightwish, I'd want to include a lot of my favorite musicians, but have they produced a cd that's brilliant from beginning to end? That's a hard call.

I might include Loreena McKennitt's Book of Secrets though, that's brilliant. I really, really like Where Moth and Rust Destroy by Tourniquet too.

Anyway... Mabool is a brilliant cd, even if few of my friends would agree. This is one of my favorite songs from it.
