Yet another of those songs that I've loved for a long time but never got around to listing as a song of the day. Wimme Sari is a Sami joiker from The far North area of Finland/Sweden/Norway, ie Lappland. The joiking of the Sami people is similar to Native American chanting/singing.
Wimmi combines electronica with his singing, but not with a heavy hand. This is traditional music with some electronica touches, not electronic dance music with some traditional touches. ^_^ And actually on his fourth cd (which I don't own), he performed entirely acapella.
Gierran (Enchantment) is probably his best song, in my opinion, and one of his most widely heard. It's from his second cd, which bears the same name. This video combines his music with images from Finnish Lappland -- very beautiful.
