Today's Song: Everywhere by Cranes

The Cranes (or is it just "Cranes"?) are an interesting band. They've been around since 1989 and often get classified as a shoegazer band, but there's a dark undercurrent to a lot of their music that pegs them as goth or a mixture of goth/shoegazer I suppose. But for any fan of 4AD-era bands like Curve, Lush, Cocteau Twins, etc., these guys will sound familiar. Which is funny because I'm into all of those bands but I never really picked up on the Cranes before now.

The other thing about this band is singer Alison Shaw's childlike voice. Several reviewers described it as "almost creepy" or "unsettling". It does add to the dark undercurrent of the music, I think.

Their more recent stuff is more eletronic and with less of an edge, but still pretty cool.
