I went for a walk after work. It was only 30 minutes -- I made it short because, while the sun was out, it looked like things could turn nasty very quickly. I didn't want to be too far down the path if it started to downpour. But even a half hour walk is better than no walk at all. ^_^

When I got back to my car, I realizxed that the door wasn't locked. This made me apprehensive because I'm fairly fanatical about locking doors, but I'd removed my coat and put it back in the car before walking so I knew I somehow forgot. There was no evidence that anyone had been in my car, and it's a pretty public place anyway, but my purse was open on the passenger seat since I'd pulled my iPod out of it before walking. I checked, and my checkbook wasn't there.

Now, I wasn't even sure when the last time was that I'd seen my checkbook. I had to think. I hadn't been to the store in a while. I'd paid some bills last week. I hadn't used the checkbook at the convention on Saturday, but I was pretty sure I'd had it with me then (in my coat pocket). I was pretty sure I'd kad it after the convention too, because I remembered tossing it into my bag with all of my gaming stuff. But I thought I'd eventually put it back where I expect it to be.

I worried about this on the way home. I checked the car. I decided that I'd paid my other bills on Tuesday the 1st, and then made my car payment on Saturday, and that was the last checks I'd written. So if I nad to report it stolen, I was pretty certain I could figure out what checks were left in the book unwritten.

I check my bag of gaming stuff at home. Nothing. Looked around on the countertop, chairs, my computer desk. I still wasn't convinced that anyone had been in my car -- it would take a very clever thief to lift my checkbook from the purse and leave no other trace that he'd been there -- but I was just starting to think that I might have lost it somehow, when I realized it might be in my laptop bag. Which it was, and apparently has been since Saturday. ^_^

Work was crazy. I'd like to think t hat means we're busy and not just because we're down to two rate clerks.
