Feb. 21st, 2004 06:21 pmI drove around today and got really pissed off. Because, you know, traffic sucks. And so does everything else when you're in a bad mood.
So anyway I was looking for a copy of "The Magic of Oz" which is one of the original 14 Baum Oz books that I thought I already had, but I've recently noticed that I don't have it. I'm missing 4 others but those are books 2 3 4 and 5 that I think I leant to Cheryl (what I mean by that is I know I leant her the first few books, aside from book 1 which I didn't have at that time, and I think I leant her four books total.)
So... it wasn't at Half Price Books in Tukwila (I checked yesterday). It wasn't at Half Price Books in the University District (and I had to fight for a parking place in their tiny parking lot). Then I gave up and drove South. I can order what I want online easier than trying to find it locally.
I tried to find Frys. It's in Renton somewhere, or so they say, on 8th Avenue and some cross street that I forgot. Right near I-405, on the West (or North) side of I-405. According to their crappy map anyway. But I drove all over Renton, and what I learned is that A) Renton is a mess, B) There is no 8th Avenue in Renton, and therefore C) Frys does not really exist. It's just a legend perpetrated by my friends to confuse me and amuse them.
So then I went to Fun-Key Computers, which I know exists because I've been there before. But existance does not prove intelligence. They were unable to sell me a barebones system because they were "swamped". They said this with a straight face, despite the fact that most of them were standing around doing nothing and occasionally asking if they could help me. I asked if I bought the "assemble it yourself" deal could I get them to install the CPU and fan, but this was also impossible.
It must be rough, standing around doing nothing in a computer store. Actually I think they probably had one person in the back whose job title is "the guy that actually does stuff", and HE was swamped. But whatever. They don't want my business, I can go somewhere else. ^_^
So... after that, traffic still sucked. I went to QFC to get some stuff. They had exactly ONE track light... a 40 watt "miser" version anyway. I needed two. Other than that they had a few "plant lights" which were track lights that you were only suppose to use on plants or something. Don't tell anyone, but I put one of them in my track lighting even though there's no plants in the computer room.
And now I don't have anything to read for writer's night, but at least I have a buncha stuff to give to Sky and some other people who probably won't show up. And I got stuff to make stew, but nothing to marinate the stew meat in. Oh well.
