Boom.

My bathroom has two lights over the mirror that come on with one switch, and one of those ceiling heat lamps that comes on with the other switch. I think maybe in the whole time I've lived here we've had to replace the bulb in the heat lamp once.

Today I stepped into the bathroom and turned the lights on. The heat lamp started making a rattling noise. I thought that maybe it was about to burn out and ignored it.

Ten seconds later there was a loud boom, followed by shattered glass falling onto the floor and a strong smell of smoke. So... I guess that means it's time to change the bulb? Sheesh, whatever happened to burning out quietly?

I heard a review of Matt's play on NPR's The Beat as I drove down the Alaskan Way Viaduct.

I returned my computer to IQS Computers. The owner scowled while his young assistants tried to explain why I had the wrong computer. One of them opened up another box and there was the computer I was meant to have. So this meant that I didn't have to wait another day to get my computer... but it also meant that I didn't really get to keep that free floppy drive and cd-rom. Well, no big loss there hehe.

They opened up the computer to verify it had everything I'd ordered. It did... and it had a video card in it that I hadn't ordered. That means if they'd given me the right box yesterday, I would have gotten a free video card of some sort. But they took it out, so no freebies of any kind. And I really feel like they owed me something after this too. ^_^

It was pouring rain for the ten minutes it took me to drive from Kent to work. Really pouring. I could barely see to drive. After that it cleared up though.

Now I'm working on my computer. If I can't figure something out maybe I'll call Mike tomorrow, or either Mike or Jeff on Saturday. ^_^

UPDATE Well I amazed myself by successfully installing my old floppy drive, cd-rom drive, and video card into my new machine. I also successfully installed Windows 98.

But now I'm stuck. I can't seem to connect to my LAN, therefore I can't see the internet, therefore I can't update Windows, can't install new drivers, etc. etc.

I have two cds that came with my motherboard. One of them (sound/dvd I guess) wants a serial code of some sort to install anything... and the serial code on the side of the box isn't acceptible. The other cd (various drivers and stuff) does not support Windows 98... lovely.

But mostly I need to make my machine see my local network... but I'm not sure why it won't at the moment.

Another Update My problem seems to be that I don't have drivers installed for my LAN and for other onboard devices. The driver disk supports only Win98SE and above. MSI's web site also only has drivers for Win98SE and above. So I guess I'm screwed.

Update #3 Found MSI message boards but also found a Win98SE disk. It refuses to install because I have an older version of Win98 already installed and it's not an upgrade disk. @#$@!#$@# Microsoft. Why can't I just install over what's there? I guess I need to reformat the drive first... bastards.

Update #4 2:45 am now. I have figured out how to format my c drive and am now installing Win98SE.

Update #5 3:10 am. I'm up... drivers installed... I can see the lan and the internet, and I'm downloading the latest directx.

I need to figure out what video driver I need for my card though.

Update #6 For some reason I couldn't download the Nvidia Geforce driver from my new computer... probably need to install Flash or something. But whatever, I downloaded it from a different computer and then transfered it through the net. Everything's looking good now. I'm running Windows updates. I think I did okay. ^_^

I named the new computer Frogstar. For some reason it can see the network but I can't see it from this computer yet. I tried rebooting the net, rebooting both machines, whatever.

Now the last questions are... should I transfer my old D: drive to my new computer or to my backup gaming machine ("Neonlotus")? Either way I'm eventually going to put a 120gig second drive in the other, to back up my music files which are all on the D: drive of this machine here (Plat Vanity).

And should I transfer the DVD drive that I really have never used anyway?

And does anyone want what's left of my old machine? It's about a 500mhz if I remember correctly... either the main hard drive or something about the hardware architecture was causing problems. Still has the C: drive but no other drives at present. I think it's also got a bad memory chip or something because it never seemed to recognize all of the memory that it was supposed to have. Case with no video card but sound and lan... and a serial port card I think, whatever I had to connect to my old scanner.

Which btw if anyone wants to fix my old scanner they can have it... it's big, but the main problem with it is just that the glass fell in and needs to be glued back to the top or something.
