two more pictures of Riley the massive cat... these are on a web page of some radio guy naimed Kimmer, so you need to scroll down a bit. But he asked for someone to prove or disprove the original picture and was sent two more pictures from the owner of this massive cat.
The cat doesn't even look very fat... just big.
In my e-mail last night was something that my father sent to all of our family... a courageous story about how Mel Gibson was horribly disfigured as a young man and a plastic surgeon restructured his face and allowed him to live a normal life. It was supposed to be a Paul Harvey story. I hadn't heard this story before... and that alone made me think it was fake. A quick visit to Snopes.com confirmed this, and I sent the link back to my dad, then spent some time reading the other Mel Gibson-related hoaxes.
I visited my Toontown message board this morning and surprise surprise, someone had posted the same fake story about Mel, which several people immediately debunked using Snopes.com and a few other urban website pages. I followed one link to urbanlegends at about.com (I had decided last night to save some of these links since my dad sends me a story like this every three to six months). So while I was there I checked out an "urban legend" slideshow full of gruesome and hilarious images... some were real, some not. Among the fakes is a man holding a giant white cat... it very much looks like a fake image. Later on there is a picture of a tourist on the Trade Center Tower with a plane flying in behind him towards the tower... this was also a fake, and people picked up on it and started placing this "tourist guy" in other photos (which they have in the slide show) revealing that he was present for the Concorde explosion, the USS Cole disaster, the Titanic sinking, the Hindenberg, JFK's assasination... but the funniest one to me was where someone replaced him in the original photo with the guy holding the giant white cat Snowball, atop the trade center tower with the plane in the background. Very silly. ^_^
Also in the slideshow was the picture of Riley the cat which I linked above.
My new computer is working just fine now! After Jeff helped me format the rest of my 40 gig hard drive on Sunday, I hooked up the speakers I'd bought and swapped in the black optical mouse and black keyboard that were attached to Tom's backup computer (which mostly isn't being used for anything). At this point my only problem was that on every bootup it would pause and I'd have to hit enter to make it continue... it said that the registry couldn't find a device that had been there previously, or something. I hadn't done much to cause this kind of error that I could think of... basically Win98 was up to its usual tricks. But I ran some more Windows updates, in part to get the updated media player... but there were some other updates and after I installed them, my "missing device" problem disappeared.
So now everything's humming along beautifully.
