In some ways I'm more out of touch than most people, because I don't watch television AT ALL, don't watch movies hardly ever, don't even check my e-mail that often. I work, I come home, I play City of Heroes, I sleep. I do check The Seattle Times or the Seattle P-I online at least once a day but I only read part of a story or two, whatever looks interesting.

In other ways maybe I'm more in-touch than most people, because I listen to NPR Radio at work for multiple hours every night. Every night I listen to All Things Considered (very good), Marketplace (also usually interesting) and then Mon-Thursday I get BBC Radio at 7 pm, which I could probably do without, since it's mostly covering stories of the day that I've heard already.

Monday is a pretty good night, I like On The Media and Latino USA. Tuesday is the second-best night of the week because I get Selected Shorts, one of my favorite shows, and The Works is usually pretty good too. After that I kind of suffer through Wednesday and Thursday, which mostly have shows that don't grab my interest that much... I like Pacific Time, but there are hour-long shows like Alternative Radio and Radio Nation which are usually interview-type shows and I prefer more story-oriented fare than straight interviews, and also some of the people they interview I'm just not interested in listening to. And then you get Speaker's Forum and National Press Club, speeches where it's only interesting if the speaker is interesting... it can be really hit or miss. So often on Wednesday and Thursday I actually listen to the music that I carry to work every day but frequently ignore.

Friday is the best night... I get This American Life, my favorite show, followed by two hours of Science Friday which is also an interview-type show but at least on interesting topics. Then we get The Play's The Thing, which is usually very good.

The only problem is that I'm working and sometimes I get interrupted or have to answer the phone... so I can get engrossed in a story and then miss a really important part. :D

My new mp3 player by Sony is very cool, but I haven't used it for half of what it's capable of. I've only burned 2 discs of mp3 music, and I'm generally too busy playing my games to worry about assembling another... and I only listen to music for a few hours a week so I don't NEED another. I have not even installed their proprietary software that can supposedly allow me to store multiple times the amount of music on a disc... I mean, it's a cool concept, but I haven't needed it yet.

I need to get a new stereo for my car, preferrably something that plays mp3s too. My current one is too finicky, it rejects nearly all cd-r's and many store-bought cds. Really annoying. And late at night when I drive home, there's not much to listen to on the radio. NPR has the Diane Rheam show, which is a talking heads political commentary type of show. I can't stand those... like I need to hear the stories of the day/week regurgitated yet again. Sometimes I'll listen to KJR sports talk or KOMO news radio, but really anymore these days I absolutely cannot abide listening to commercials, so my tolerance for those stations is really really low.

There was a story today about a plane in Germany that had to return to the airport because a cat got loose from its carry-on cage and got into the cockpit and scratched the pilot. My first thought was, if a cat can get into the cockpit, then I'm guessing a terrorist wouldn't have much trouble. :D
