Today is kind of a sucky day. The Seahawks lost. They didn't just lose, they got destroyed. They suck. I made pizza. It was a frozen pizza but it was DiGourno's (however you spell it) and I added extra olives and extra cheese, both mozarella and cheddar. I left it in the oven a few minutes too long, so while it wasn't burnt it was very very brown and basically crispy. I ate one and a half pieces. It sucked. Then I decided to make rice crispies, which didn't work. I'm sure that has something to do with the marshmallows being very old, but I also tried to melt them on the stove before changing my mind because it wasn't working well, and I used the microwave, which at least got them melted but also didn't work well. I had to throw the whole mess away. It sucked. And cleaning up the dishes also sucked.

Anyway, I had a good time at my parent's place on Thanksgiving. My mom and my nephew are in Thailand, but my sisters and brothers-in-law and my dad and my three nieces were there. My one brother-in-law spent a lot of time complaining and repeating himself over and over -- his new mantra is that he's through helping other people, he only has the energy to look out for himself, he can't be bothered with thinking about anyone other than himself, he's just trying to survive, etc. etc. blah blah ad nauseum. But he also talked about his commodity trading plans and how he's going to get rich, how he's tired of being poor. Basically, he has no college education, he's working a menial labor job at a chicken processing plant for about $8 an hour, he has no incentive to work harder or to allow himself to be promoted to a managerial position (he's turned this down more than once -- you know, he's a white American male who speaks English, in a place where most of the workers are not white, not male, not American citizens, do not speak English well. But he's not management material by any stretch of the imagination). All he really wants to do is be lazy and fish and hunt. But it's pretty sad to hear him complain about how poor he is, my sister is an Occupational Therapist and she makes very good money, they have a house, they have nothing to complain of. He's just the type who will always complain no matter what. He's pretty annoying to be around.

Oh well. My nieces climbed all over me and wouldn't leave me alone. Ella insisted I sit next to her during Thanksgiving dinner. The next night Blair claimed that it was her turn, so Ella pouted and cried. She also cried because I didn't give her a ride in my car, but it was 9 pm at night and I didn't see the point of driving around in the dark. When Blair found out that I owned Shrek 2 on dvd she asked why I hadn't brought it. I'd sort of assumed that they already had it, between her and her brother and Ella they seem to have every children's animated film known to man. Becky said that she had it at home and would bring it the next day. But it turned out what she had was Shrek the original movie. The difference was kind of lost on Becky, but Blair wasn't happy, she didn't want to see Shrek, she wanted Shrek 2. Everyone was trying to find an acceptible movie to order off pay per view, but I just said I'd go buy them their own copy of Shrek 2. I mean, Fred Meyers is only about a mile away from my dad's house, and the movie cost $16.99.

So then we got to watch the movie while Ella and Blair ran around, made noise, danced in front of the television screen, fought over who wanted to sit where, and while my six-month-old niece cried and screamed and my dad and my sisters talked over all the noise.

I am so glad I don't have to deal with that on a regular basis. ^_^

I stopped at Uwajamaya on the way back home. I bought some wasabi cashews (yum!) and a Thai dinner that included red curry chicken and phad thai. I also picked up volume 3 of Fruits Basket, which Tom and I watched late last night. Very fun series.

And I picked up a brand new Me First & The Gimmee Gimmee's cd while I was in Longview. ^_^
