May. 20th, 2005 02:23 pmI listened to my Spamalot soundtrack several times yesterday. Very funny, and some of the songs got stuck in my head.
I haven't played much City of Heroes or Second Life this week, but I've been getting home so late (nearly 2 am the last two nights) that I really haven't had much time to do anything else. Once I check my mail and visit my usual web pages I've already wasted an hour, and I generally try to go to bed at 4-5 am.
On Monday I pulled up one of my old stories and decided that I could finish it by Saturday. But I didn't get very much work done on it during the week. I worked on it more last night, and might still be able to finish it by writer's night, but we'll see. I have a completed first scene that I'm debating rewriting. I have completed the next three scenes, skipped over the fifth scene for the moment, and written most of a new sixth scene that only occured to me yesterday. The rest is about 5-6 scenes, all partly written, some nearly complete. As usual, the plot I had in mind tends to morph and twist and change as I try to write it, and I'm less certain of a good finished story, or whether it will actually work for the owners of the characters involved.
Until recently I was fond of working at my bedroom computer (known as the Frogstar). It was more powerful, for one thing, and more private (which is hardly a concern since Tom's usually asleep or at work when I'm awake anyway). My second computer in the computer room (known as Platinum Vantiy, where I'm sitting now) was still my "e-mail" computer (I didn't really want to recieve e-mail on more than one machine, I like to have everything in one place). Anyway now that I've upgraded Platinum Vanity, I find myself spending a lot more time here in the computer room. I can play my games from this machine as easily as from Frogstar, I can check my e-mail, and I've been doing my writing from here. One of the nice things is the huge window into the back yard. We've had the curtains open for more than a month now, and you can see crows and squirrels and little birds flitting and running about, sometimes coming very close to where you're sitting. The ground is at eye level so you see things as the squirrels see them -- and there's a whole family of squirrels back there, very active. They like to run along the branch that hangs just in front of the window, and then leap onto the back balcony.
My little bedroom window is quite different -- it looks out onto the side of the house, where the neighbors generally have stacks of old tires, rusting barbeque grills or bicycles, and anyone who walks by can look straight down on me and into my room. Not to mention the wall of apartments directly opposite me, who can also look directly into my room if the curtains are open. I generally keep them shut. ^_^
Here in the computer room, I sometimes forget what I'm doing and just watch the squirrels and birds. ^_^
