Dec. 11th, 2005 10:49 amI drove over to Chuck's place yesterday. I was a little late but actually arrived ahead of a lot of people. I parked my car on the street, and we proceeded to load up three other cars full of stuff, which all headed down to Federal Way. Chuck had everything boxed up and marked with what was inside and what room it should go in. This included many many many (too many) books -- Chuck owns more books than Tom and I combined, I think, and that is saying a lot! Certainly if you count his roughly 25+ long boxes of comics that is true.
After the third car left I drove back home and offloaded what has been in the back of the car for weeks -- purple plastic binx, suitable for my own move when I get to that point. Then I grabbed a Dr. Pepper out of the fridge, stopped to get gas and put air into my right rear tire which has a very slow leak, and headed back. We loaded up my car and then the other cars as they came back, but we'd recieved word to not move because Edd and Chuck (who I hadn't even seen yet) were going to get the rental truck. But at some point we decided that Amy and Katy were down at the other apartment, so we could send some vehicles down there with loads, and that would give us more room in the back alley for the truck anyway. So Kristen and I headed off to Federal Way.
Once there, Amy had some pop and cookies for us (and the others when they arrived). We began unloading our two cars. Now, let me tell you, mostly our cars were loaded down with big boxes of books and comics. The boxes were supposed to be "small" boxes but they weighed quite a bit -- some of them were easily over 50 lbs, a LOT over 50 lbs even. Chuck's new apartment is on the third floor, which wasn't quite as bad as it sounds because the first floor was actually a half-flight downstairs, and the third was only 1 1/2 flights up. Still, lugging up all of those books was an incredible pain. We took many breaks and Kristin and I finished the job, and when we were finally done we rested for just a few minutes, and then the rest of the cars and the big truck showed up, and it was back to moving.
I was so beat from just the two cars of books we'd carried up that I didn't think I could help much with the rest of the stuff, but I didn't want to look lazy so I started carrying stuff up. After several trips I realized I wasn't nearly as tired as I'd been when lugging up the books. For a moment I thought, hey, I must be getting my second wind! Then I realized -- carrying up the furniture and other things that were left was a picnic compared to the massively heavy boxes of books. I'd sort of been dreading the arrival of the furniture, but it turns out the books were the worst part, and that part was already done.
When we were finished Chuck bought pizza and we sat around and ate, and then some people were leaving so I decided to leave as well. On the way home I stopped at Silver Platters to pick up a couple more Christmas presents, then CompUSA to buy a new cd burner, then I stopped at Top Ten Toys and got another present for my niece, and hit my comic shop.
I was certain after all of that work that I'd get a good night's sleep, but actually I had trouble sleeping, don't know why. Oh well! It's Sunday, so I can just relax and watch football or something.
