Apr. 4th, 2006 10:46 pmBeen spending time reading manga and ripping more of my cd collection to my hard drive. I'm still bothered by the fact that I had as many as four missing Steeleye Span cds. I've looked through my collection several times, but can't find them. I know two of them I owned for sure... and I'm fairly certain I owned the other two as well.
Anyway, after my big comic haul last week (5 weeks worth of comics) I read Yobisaki Milk Tea and Yotsuba first. Both are quite fun. I also read through the latest Usagi Yojimbo, one of the few actual floppy-style comics that I still pick up.
Then I started on Negima! Halfway through I think I realized something. My two all-time favorite manga artists... those who can do no wrong, who always entertain and amaze me, are Kosuke Fujishima (Ah! My Goddess, You're Under Arrest) and Yukito Kishiro (Battle Angel Alita, Aqua Knight). Those are my manga gods, as it were.
I've decided that Ken Akamatsu really belongs in the same league. His series Love Hina was always tons of fun, and his new series Negima! just gets better and better with every volume. What certainly seemed at first glance to be nothing more than Akamatsu pairing what was currently popular (Harry Potter) with his penchant for as many cute girls as he can cram into a series has turned into a very enjoyable story. I shouldn't be surprised, Love Hina was nothing more than a typical "one loser guy, many cute girls" setup, but he wrote a wonderful story from that setup. Anyway with Negima! we're now on volume 9, and I find myself thinking about writing fan fiction based on the series. That's usually a good indication of how much I like something. ^_^
In other news, my short story collecting The Flying Sorcerers came in the mail Monday. I read the Terry Pratchett story right away. Very funny, very cute. I liked it better than his short piece in the previous volume, The Wizards of Odd.
