Well, after Mike worked on my computer several hours today... it's still hosed.
At this point I would have to say I have a hardware problem... either my video card or my motherboard is causing the problem, I guess. I only say that because we completely wiped my C drive and did a clean reinstall of Windows 98, and then we moved the computer from my bedroom to my computer room and hooked it up to the 19" monitor I bought a few months ago... and the problem hasn't gone away. It freezes up after only a few minutes of doing stuff.
Maybe the solution is to drag it to Mike's place tomorrow and just leave it there until he can investigate further. If he can figure it out at all. Another solution would be to put a different video card in it, but I can't afford to do that for a month at least.
Anyway, I haven't written anything all week, or done much of anything. I have my laptop to write and surf the web with, but it's not the same... I don't like the keyboard for one thing. It's hard to get into the right mood for writing on this thing. I also have my old 300 mhz machine running Linux in my room, no modem on it for now but I can convert my story files to rich text format and transfer them to that machine, I think...
Anyway it's all very annoying. Seems like every time I try to upgrade it's a disaster. Mike has spent half of his week at my house trying to get this one machine to work correctly, and all I did was feed him badly made rice.
