miko2: Ranma disguised as a schoolgirl to fool Ryoga (Default)
Today I was really in the mood to come home, do some writing, and watch the rest of Lord of the Rings.

But first I wanted to get my new computer all set up. I plugged in the video card, plugged in the power, etc., turned it on... yay! It works!

Or so I thought. TCP/IP is fucked up somehow. I've been working on it for nearly two hours and I absolutely can not force this computer to recognize or interact with my network. I'm getting very frustrated and pissed off.

1. When I check the Device Manager I don't see any Network Adaptors. I think I should.

2. When I check my Network from the control panel, I see TCP/IP with nothing listed after it. I think I should see something like TCP/IP -> NETGEAR FA310TX FAST ETHERNET PCI ADAPTOR. Or something similar.

3. Regardless, I clicked on properties for TCP/IP and specified an ip address, but this doesn't seem to accomplish anything.

4. I have attemped in every way I can think of to forcibly install the Network Adaptor, but it always insists that this is a plug and play device and so I can't force it to install, I just need to shut down my computer and restart, and it will install itself. BULLSHIT!

5. When I right-click on my hard drive icon, I don't see the "SHARING" option. I guess that won't appear until my computer recognizes that it has a net card installed that is plugged into a network.

Anyway I've wasted too much time screwing around with this tonight, and now I'm in a bad mood and I won't get any writing done. This should be so damned difficult... I may not know a lot about networking, but I had no problems networking my other three computers. Whoever invented plug and play can kiss my ass.
