Home again home again jiggidy jig
Aug. 10th, 2002 01:13 amAnother week is done. My new computer is happy. I'm ready to start my next computer project, "Ressurect the Beast". But I don't think I'll start tonight.
I got two orders in the mail today, and a note about a third. The first was a hardback Oz book from 1985 that was kind of expensive, but I'm glad I got it. It's obscure and won't likely ever be reprinted, so I'd better take care of the copy I have. ^_^ The second was an order from Amazon, containing the most recent Cardcaptor dvd and two cds. I haven't actually bought any new cds in several weeks, but these two are really beautiful. The first is "Rabbit Songs" by Hem, which is described as dream pop (contains a bluegrass tune though, it's got a variety of stuff). Very beautiful songs, glad I heard them on NPR. The second cd I bought on a whim, it was the one that Amazon offered as a match for Hem, so I checked it out and it sounded really interesting, "Time (The Revelator)" by Gillian Welch. It also contained the song "I Want to Sing that Rock and Roll" which is on one of the "Oh Brother Where Art Thou?" cds (not the actual soundtrack, but a live concert featuring a lot of the musicians from the movie). The singer's name was familiar, and it looked like a cool collection of traditional tune covers, including the song I mention which I had always assumed was a traditional song. But as it turns out, all of the songs here are new, written by the singer, including "I Want to Sing that Rock and Roll", and naturally the version on my "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" is also by Gillian Welch. She writes beautiful songs that are described as "timeless and endering" by which they mean they sound like they've been around for a hundred years. Very nice stuff.
I see that I need to buy more Gillian Welch.
I'm going to mix a cd to give out to people at the barbeque I think. For anyone who likes their progressive metal mixed with dream pop, folk, folk-rock, power pop, world beat and alternative pop goodness. ^_^
Going to watch the rest of Lord of the Rings tonight. It's a loooong movie. Then maybe some Cardcaptor as well.
Oh yes -- the third thing, that they didn't deliver to me, but which I hopefully can get tomorrow, is two new Feel So Bad cds from Japan. It's been a while since I ordered any, so I'm looking forward to hearing those.
