Okay it took me more than four hours, but we're up and running now.

First, the install disc didn't work. Mike told me to toss it anyway.

Next, I got cust service on dialup, and he told me how to connect to the right web page to register. But on the second page, I would hit "next" and get a "can not display" error for the next page. Nothing I did could make it display, and it was clear that I hadn't completed registration yet.

So I got customer service again, and a woman told me that I was already registered. I told her I wasn't but she knew I was, and wouldn't listen to me when I told her I hadn't made it through registration. She could detect that I had a firewall or router up, and she just knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that this was my problem, that my router wasn't configured right.

I want to call her a word here, it rhymes with switch. ^_^

So she told me to connect my computer directly to the modem and that would prove that it was my router. And when I said but I didn't have a login or e-mail account set up yet, she asked what name and password I wanted and said she'd get it set up for me.

So... I tried other things. Jeff suggested that I move the router out to the modem in the living room, because the cord from modem to router is a special cord, and probably that was my problem, I was using a standard ethernet cord from the living room to the computer room. But that didn't fix things. I hooked my laptop up to the modem directly, and still nothing worked.

So I contacted tech support again. This time I got transfered to a real tech guy, who had me change my proxy settings so that I could finish registration. When I asked if I needed to pick a name and password, and mentioned that the woman tech had supposedly already done that for me, he said no I needed to finish registration myself, and what was she talking about, she wasn't even able to assign a login/email name and password for me.

So anyway, after finishing the registration process I was up and running. Woo! ^_^

I tried to dual EQ using my gaming machine and my secondary gaming machine, but the secondary didn't want to work. So I tried with my old 500mhz machine, and boy was that a pain, but it worked for a while until I lost connection with it and couldn't get it back. I'm not sure what the deal is, guess I'll have to reboot the whole system.

In the meantime I guessed that my real problem with my 2nd gaming machine was directx, so I downloaded 8.1 and installed it, and bingo, everything works now. ^_^

So I'm playing eq on two machines right now and posting this from my laptop. Fun, neh?
