Having listened to the owner interviewed on NPR this week, I have a strong desire to locate Archie McPhee's in Ballard and check it out. I don't want to buy anything there, I just want to experience what it's like to visit their store.

I wrote more on my Magical Girls in Oz story today. Things are progressing well.

I recieved some stuff that I ordered this week. Beyond the Shadows by Golden Bough. And let me rant about Golden Bough for a moment. I have most of their stuff on vinyl. At one point long ago most of it was made available on cd, but I didn't snatch it up in time. So I'm missing the original first cd, and Winding Road (I think it's called), and as for Boatman's Daughter and Flight of Fantasy, I have a cd that combines the two of them but leaves out a few songs in order to fit everything on one cd.

That part was always a bit annoying to me... why not just release both cds seperately? Well, now they've gone even further. I can go to their web site, but I can't order the two cds that my collection is missing. Instead, I can order two double cds that contain songs from their first six releases, all in a jumbled order. So if I want to get all of the songs from their first cd, I have to order four new cds of material that includes stuff I already own, and nothing's in order, and I'm not even sure that when I'm done I'll have all the songs from those cds I'm missing.

This annoys me to no end.

Worse... at least one company on Gemm.com lists the cds I'm missing for not too outrageous prices... but they're a company with an absolutely horrible rating, who routinely don't ship what they described or ship unplayable copies or don't ship anything at all. I doubt I'd want to take a chance on them... but there doesn't seem to be any other way to get the cds I want. Except to convert my vinyl to digital.

Anyway... the other two things that arrived today were Oz books... The Glass Cat of Oz, which is a short and recently written Oz book, and Handy Mandy in Oz, one of the Thompson books I ordered a few days ago. I'm quite excited, my collection will soon be much closer to completion. ^_^

Speaking of which... the Thompson Oz books after #29 that I have are put out by Books of Wonder. In the back of the book it lists Captain Salt In Oz as a book that they publish, and a check on their web site shows that I can indeed buy it for $12.95, which is much better than the out-of-print, used for only $135.00 price that I found on Amazon. That's the old hardbound copy of course, but last week it was the cheapest used copy available... more recently I noticed a copy for only $30.00, which might very well be the paperbound Books of Wonder version. I have no idea why Amazon says this is out of print... but I suppose I should order from Books of Wonder as soon as possible.

Still on my Oz kick. Was checking out the Toto, Too Inc. web site, which features the works of Roger S. Baum, grandson of L. Frank Baum. He's written a number of Oz books... although his books are often criticized for contradicting or just plain ignoring known facts about Oz.

Anyway, one of them has been made into a 75 min animated movie... at first I was thinking it was a vanity thing that he had done himself, (the cover... Lion In Oz... even reminds me of Lion King) but it's put out by Sony DVD and stars the voices of Tim Curry, Dom DeLuise, Bobcat Goldthwait, Kathy Griffin, Jane Horrocks, Jason Priestley and Lynn Redgrave.

I mean... it still probably isn't that great, but now I want to see it, especially to see what Tim Curry's up to. Checking out the Amazon listing, I see that it was shown on the Disney channel... and most people seem to have liked it.
