My plan for the week was to have a new story done by writer's night on Saturday. I said I was going to have a new story every month, but the problem is I haven't actually worked on a story this week, or in the preceeding couple of weeks. In theory I was going to finish "Hair of the Through that Bit Me" but it's a big complicated story, I don't have time to write the second half of it, and I'd rather not read the first half of it as is because it needs serious reworking... maybe I can rework enough of it to have several pages to read. I was thinking that the story that preceeds it, "Bitch" would be easy to write by Saturday because it's a much more straightforward plot, but having not worked on it all week (and not having much already written), I doubt I could get much done at this point.

Sandee found a Chinese restaurant that's just up the street from work, only about 2 blocks away, down a back street that I've never driven down before. They had Singapore Noodles on their menu, which is made with very very thing noodles. I've been craving that for weeks, I couldn't really say why, but it's a dish that none of the Chinese restaurants I go to offer, so I decided to order that tonight.

My problem with this restaurant is that it's what I would consider "not very authentic" Chinese food. They offer the classic "American Chinese" dishes Egg Foo Young and Chop Suey, and a lot of their other offerings are pretty tame or bland, no real Sezchuan dishes. So the Singapore Noodles was good, but for a dish that was yellow from curry sauce, it actually didn't have a very strong curry flavor and wasn't spicy at all. I think if I specified that I wanted it spicy that might help a little, but I was really surprised at how bland a curry dish it was. The green onions in it stood out because they were one of the most flavorful things in the dish -- and it's not as if there aren't a lot of other things in there, including barbeque pork, prawns, carrot, cabbage, onion, and bean sprouts I think.

I got a small cup of hot and sour soup that was much more flavorful, but also not half as spicy/sour as I'm used to.

Gloria showed up at work. She's been retired for a couple of years now I think, and she's only come back to work for us one single night -- she really isn't interested in even part time work to supplement her retirement money, but of course she's also married to someone who works at Boeing I think so she doesn't need extra money. She has two kids in high school junior high too -- she started work at 18 and retired as early as possible.

Anyway she had a truly funny story to tell. Recently her daughter was at some sort of school sporting event over in Pasco, and Gloria tried to drive to the place but she got lost. She said she was nervous driving around, with the stereotypical angst/discomfort of a white woman lost in non-white (latino) neighborhoods. She stopped at a Jack In The Box, went inside, and said that she was lost and explained where she was going, and a nice latino girl behind the counter said that she was off work in five minutes and was heading the same direction, and Gloria could just follow her.

At this point, Gloria realized that she'd left her keys in the car with the engine running and locked the door. Everything was locked in the car. She said, "Oh no! I've locked my keys in the car!"

"Oh, don't worry!" another girl behind the counter said. "I just got out of juvie for stealing cars!"

And with that dubious assurance, the entire Jack In The Box staff filed into the parking lot, and in just a couple of minutes they had Gloria's car unlocked. ^_^
