Oct. 24th, 2005 02:38 pmAfter spending the weekend pretty much not attending the con I'd paid to attend, I managed to actually get off my lazy butt long enough to purchase airline tickets to Chicago for Midwest Furfest. I'm pretty sure I can't avoid that con, the tickets cost too much and once I'm there I won't have anything else to do but be at the con. ^_^
Tickets were weird. I'd checked Southwest earlier, which had some tickets below $300 from what I remember, but then I was warned to fly into O'Hare if I could, which Southwest didn't. So this time I went straight to Alaska Airlines, but after entering that I wanted to fly back on Sunday afternoon, I was presented with round trips that had me leaving O'Hare at 8:15 AM. I was confused by this and played with the departure times some more, until I finally realized that 8:15 AM was practically their only flight out of O'Hare on Sunday, and the flights they had in the afternoon or evening were naturally more fully booked.
So then I went to cheaptickets.com, something like that I think, and discovered that, for the most part, Alaska's prices were very competetive. Frontier had very cheap flights if I wanted to stop off in Denver and then fly into that other Chicago airport. Delta had cheap prices if I wanted to stop over in Atlanta (um... yeah, 7+ hours to get to Chicago, no thanks). Anyway I had decided previously to avoid the carriers that were in bankruptcy. There were other options, that had me flying to Phoenix or Las Vegas or California first... and in some cases those were MORE expensive than Alaska's direct flights.
The 8:15 AM Alasak flights were only 264.00 round trip, as cheap as just about anything else I saw, but I wound up paying 384.00 round trip just so I could fly back in the afternoon/evening... ^_^ I know I should have bought these things back in August, might have been much cheaper then, but oh well!
