The Watch and the Dog
Sep. 25th, 2006 12:04 pmI dropped my watch on my walk today and broke it. It was a cheap watch -- a big chunky Union Bay thing meant to look rugged although it wasn't really. It had huge knobby buttons sticking out of the sides -- big enough to get smashed in when I dropped it. Now one button is stuck on the in position and I can't get the watch back to a "display time" mode.
As I was coming back down the hill along the road, a black and white shepherd dog passed me. This surprised me because of course I had my iPod headphones on and was concentrating on what was in front of me, and the dog came up right next to me from behind. I looked back, and there was nobody else around. Who was with the dog?
I was, apparently. It got a bit ahead of me but kept looking back, and then it paused to wait for me to catch up. It would fall behind to look at something, then catch up to me. When I crossed the street, it crossed the street. It was very clearly walking along with me, although I had no idea why.
When we got to my parking lot I said, "You're not coming into my apartment." Without acknowledging me at all, the dog wandered off in the direction of some other apartments, rather than follow me right up to my door. It was as if he had a different destination in mind all along.
Strange dog.
Oh, and Happy Birthday to
