I got a little stupid yesterday. After saying how I had to save money until my next paycheck, I went out and spent a lot of money.

Most of it was on groceries and things that I'll need in the coming weeks anyway, such as shampoo. In essence that allows me to not spend any more money for the next week or so. But one purchase ws completely unneccsessary: I stopped at Half-Price Books and picked up a deeply discounted copy of City of Villians for $4.98.

I already have City of Heroes and City of Villians, of course. But two of the people I've been grouping with lately have two accounts each. They can use one character to help the other character out -- to powerlevel, to finish a mission quickly that has a specific objective. And I began thinking. Having two accounts makes it easy to transfer money from one character to another. Having two accounts makes it easy to maintain your own supergroup, to invite your other characters in, to do things the way you want. I used to run two accounts in Everquest and it was kind of fun.

So... I rationalized that if I picked up a second account for just a few bucks, then that'd be okay. I could stop paying for the land I have in Second Life and that would cover the cost of a second CoH subscription. I don't do much with that land anymore anyay.

Of course, the problem is that I only bought City of Villians. True, it contains the entire game needed for City of Heroes, but you aren't allowed to make a hero if you haven't entered a code for that game. I discovered this after spending a few hours installling and updating the game and setting up a second account. I could run two villians at the same time, but not two heroes. I mostly play heroes and that is what I wanted.

Well, okay, so I decided I'd just buy the City of Heroes account online. All I needed was the code. I attempted to do this using my new second account, but I ran into problems. Then I discovered I couldn't even buy it on my old account. As it turns out, I had created two master accounts (NC Soft maintains a master account that can have multiple game accounts beneath it, such as City of Heroes and Lineage II). Each of my accounts had the same information and more importantly, the same credit card. This caused problems, so they wouldn't let me use my card from either account.

What a pain. It was nearly 10 PM and by now I was jonesing to log into my second account and play. I was frustrated, so I did the obvious, stupid thing to do. I drove to the store to buy a brand new copy of City of Heroes.

Fred Meyers only had City of Villians. I went to Walmart. They had the "Good Vs. Evil" edition of the game that came with BOTH CoH and CoV. I didn't need another copy of City of Villians, but that was all that was there, and it was only $10.00 more than buying City of Heroes online, so I got it.

When I got home I was momentariy dismayed to realize I'd picked up the dvd version of the game -- I don't have a dvd player in the computer I wanted to play on. But of course, the game was already installed, all I really needed was the game code. Having the game on dvd could prove useful in the future if I need to install it on another computer -- one disc vs. four for the game on cd.

The dvd version of the game came with some extra perks -- costume options that I didn't have before, and a jump pack that helps you manuever around at low levels. So actually I was happy to have it, as opposed to just buying the game code online.

And then I wasted the next three hours setting up new characters and a new supergroup of my own. ^_^

Today's Song: Prisstina by Sleater-Kinney )

I postdated my entries for Saturday and Sunday since I wrote them Sunday and Monday. I want to maintain a record of having done a song of the day every single day since I've started. But having post-dated them, I see that they don't show up on my "friends" view, only when I look at my journal entries only. Not that I really expect that many people are reading these but, just FYI.
