This is not a bad start, considering that I only had about 750 words last night. My problem was that, even though I'm writing a side story to my fan fiction story Girl's School and thus am familiar with a lot of the characters, I still really only had a vague idea of where I wanted to go with this story. Contrary to what they tell you, I can not just ignore everything and write. I have to write reasonably well, and more importantly, I have to establish characters and plots so I have some idea where I'm going. If I don't do that, I won't be able to write anything at all.
This is what happened to me the first night. I didn't know exactly how to start the story because I didn't have a firm idea of where I was going. After thinking about it more today I jotted down a bunch of notes on scenes and characters that will become important later on in the story, and I had a much better idea of where to start. As it turns out, the scene I wrote first will become the fourth scene of the story. I still don't have a real framework for how the story is going to unfold, but I know major characters and major plot points that that should allow me to mix and stir things up as I go along.
My word total includes all of my character, setting, and plot notes. That counts, I think, since I didn't have any of them written beforehand. Anyway I have about 3 1/2 scenes written so I'm off an running. ^_^ The trick will be getting enough written on the weekend, especially Saturday when I'll be busy doing other things much of the day.
