I had trick or treaters!
Nov. 1st, 2007 08:33 amOnly about 8 or so, I think, but that's more than I've had in the last, oh, 22 years at least.
For years I lived in a basement apartment of a triplex on a busy Greenwood street in North Seattle, and people just didn't trick or treat on our street. At all. I think the only people we ever got there were the two girls from the landlords upstairs, and that was only when they were young.
When I moved to my current apartment in Auburn I was still working nights, so of course I wasn't home when any potential trick or treaters were out and about. Last night I was home working on my computer, with the music turned on. I might have possibly missed a knock at the door or two if they weren't loud enough, but I don't think I did. I got one loud knock and when I answered it, there were at least 6 kids out there.
I'd even cleaned off the counter and vacuumed and straightened up when I got home, and had some candles lit. I was all prepared. ^_^
I thought that would be it, but around 9:30 pm when I was actually getting ready for bed, I heard another knock. A mother and two young girls were at the door, so I got to hand out more of my candy.
The rest came to work of course. My coworker C especially appreciates this, because peanut M&Ms is his favorite.
Today is the start of NaNoWriMo. I've thought about participating before. Several times I've "participated" without participating... attempting to write 50,000 words during the month without signing up for the event or following all of their rules (technically you're supposed to work on a new project, something you haven't done any prior work on, and you're supposed to work on one single project -- a novel).
Anyway my problem has always been that I have too many other projects that I'm supposed to be working on and I don't really want to spend a whole month doing something else. But I did sign up for the even yesterday. As things would have it, I have been writing the last two days, and nearly have a new chapter of my fanfic story Girls School ready to publish.
So one of my ideas is... to try and develop a novel-length side story to my fan fiction, that can work as a stand-alone story but which I can also actually feel like I'm accomplishing something on a project I'm already working on.
I have until the end of the day to decide. 50,000 words in a month is 1,667 words a day... which isn't really a lot if you're used to writing, but it adds up fast if you don't write every single day and then try to catch up. If I'm going to do this, I need to jump right into it immediately.
