Snow on Christmas
Dec. 25th, 2007 09:00 pmIt snowed today in Longview, WA. Nothing was sticking, but it came down for a couple of hours and was very pretty.
On my drive home it seemed like most of the area North of Longview/Kelso on up to Olympia got a dusting of snow that had stuck to the ground -- just not on the freeway, thankfully.
I made a Christmas list this year and so I got several things that I actually wanted -- including two new tee shirts, one from The Mountain and one from Crazy Shirts; cds by Deliverance and by Gillian Welch; the final season of News Radio, and season three of Red Dwarf.
But perhaps the best present was from my sister Brenda, who gave me a copy of Manga Messiah, the story of Jesus in manga form. It's actually very well done -- and you gotta love that Christ is recognizably similar to the typical Western depiction of him, but at the same time looks like a typical ultra-cool manga hero. Plus, at least one of the wise men was a beautiful bishoen guy and Mary as a teneager is a typical maga babe (only dressed more conservatively, of course). Oh, and Gabriel looks like he could kick Naruto's ass. Which I'm sure he could.
I might have to get the manga Buddah story now. But I'd be sad if I couldn't get a manga Mohammed story as well (which would be problematic, as most Islamisists hold that images of the Prophet are blasphemy, I believe).
Ah well. Here's some of my relatives being silly online:
