Dec. 23rd, 2008 11:25 amI stayed in all weekend. After going to the store Saturday afternoon I prepared to be snowed in. I was also prepared to lose power in a big windstorm, which never happened, but since I was expecting that I was online early in the evening and spent most of the night hanging out with Nara in Second Life.
Sunday I built a fire. I edited chapter 18 of Girl's School and published it. I can't remember what else I did -- watched some football.
Monday I got dressed early to check outside. It looked like only one person had been to or from the apartments on my side of the building -- there was a single set of footprints in the snow, which was 6-8" deep. I decided not to head in to work right away and called in. Later, at around 8:30 AM I cleaned the snow off of my car and tried to leave the parking lot, but despite several attempts I wasn't able to get up the little hill to the roadway, even with a running start. My car was sliding everywhere too so I managed to park it and call in saying I was staying home for the day.
I didn't do much with my day off. I'd talked to Tom on Sunday, he has a new computer and something he said made me think of a line in Order of the Stick (web comic), so I encouraged him to check it out because it's one of the funniest online comics period. And then... I decided to reread it myself from the beginning. I spent a lot of time doing that on Monday.
I also read multiple volumes of Kare Kano, His & Her Circumstances. I've been reading a few volumes of that manga a week... I'd never finished it but I had the entire series now. I'd read one volume or part of one while walking on the treadmill in the exercise room -- kinda lame but reading while walking makes the time pass much faster. Anyway after I got past volume 17 I couldn't put the series down and I read the last several volumes all yesterday. The series is 21 volumes total. It's one of the best manga series I've read, at least for the whole shoujo relationship drama type of story. skyoxford a week ago when even as I lent it to him I said that I wasn't sure how great a series it was... some of the characters are pretty annoying... and then to compare it to Kare Kano, there's really no comparison. I need to lend out all of Kare Kano, I know Sky's never read all of it.
One thing I did was clear the entire sidewalk and the area in front of all the parking places next to my building with my boots. I don't own a snow shovel, and if I bought one, when's the next time I'd get to use it, 3 years from now? But I was able to kick snow and ice out of the way and clear the sidewalk pretty well, and that also was good exercise for an hour. Then I built another fire and placed my boots near it to dry them out (and my jeans).
Today I was able to get out of the parking lot -- barely. It took 3 attempts. The roads on the way to work were awfully slick too, and I nearly wound up going sideways at one point, but here I am.
Still trying to decide if I'm going to drive to Longview tonight or not.
