I only noticed last night, after owning my new iPod for well over a month, that iTunes knows exactly what color it is.
It's not that I hadn't seen the little purple icon in iTunes, or the full picture of a purple iPod when I clicked on it. I just hadn't really paid attention, or made the connection that iTunes knew. I had to ask a co-worker with a red iPod nano if his showed up red.
That's such a little detail and it accomplishes nothing except to be cool, but it's something they had to plan and code for. It's the sort of thing that separates Apple from their competition.
Yesterday I played a game on my iPod for the first time. It comes with three, and I played the maze game. It's fun. But iTunes knew I'd played it and asked if I wanted to download more games. I don't think I need to buy any new games just yet, I haven't even played the other two.
So far for movies, I've downloaded the three-episode Read or Die ova, and the three-episode Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. I haven't bought the software needed to convert any of my normal dvds for use on my iPod, so that's been it. This week I went looking for something else I might want to download, and came across Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex. I've always loved Shirow in general and the Ghost in the Shell manga was great, but his track record for conversion to anime has been mostly disappointing until recent years. In fact, the Ghost in the Shell movie is considered one of his best successes and one of the great anime movies, and it still didn't really compare to the manga.
Stand Alone Complex nails the feel of the manga very well. iTunes has 2 full seasons available for download -- about 50 some episodes. I've downloaded six of them so far. ^_^

When I heard about the two nuclear subs that had collided in the Atlantic, I wanted to post something about it and make a joke -- but the jokes were so easy that it almost seemed pointless to make them, because most of my friends would have already thought of them. The headline itself is practically a joke -- how do two subs manage to collide in the vast Atlantic anyway?
The Onion makes the headline part of their "American Voices" where they pretend to ask people on the street their opinion. One response: "Luckily, I heard the collision from a few feet away, which saved my nuclear sub from becoming part of a nasty pileup situation."
Genius. ^_^
