Salvage- based Lunch Planning
Mar. 5th, 2009 11:11 amTwo weeks ago I was given a jar of organic low-carb gourmet spaghetti sauce that came from salvage. I bought some whole wheat spaghetti and some meatballs and I had that for lunch for 3 days of last week. The sauce was ok, not as good as what I make on my own though.
Last week's salvage was a bottle of Famous Dave's barbeque sauce. It wasn't specifically low carb but it didn't look too bad. I went out for lunch Monday and Tuesday, and that gets expensive, so I asked my co-worker what I should make with barbeque sauce and she said chicken. I bought some chicken breasts on the way home. I also bought some bread and cans of tuna fish on the off-chance I was too lazy to actually cook anything. As it turns out, I forgot to do anything until it was time to go to bed, so I tossed 1 1/2 cups of brown rice into my crock pot with water, some celery, onion, bell pepper, and spices, then put three chicken breasts on top and poured barbeque sauce on them. Then I went to bed.
In the morning I put it all into three containers for lunch for the last 3 days of the week. It actually turned out pretty good. ^_^
I bought some tea pots from Ebay today. I don't own any, and these were a set of three for $1.99 plus about $15.00 shipping and handling. They're smaller than I thought they were at first, the dimensions given were from tip of handle to tip of spout, which I hadn't realized before bidding. They're Japanese clay teapots, very simple, maybe only 1-2 cups of tea per pot but we'll see. I'm trying to plan ahead for some tea sampling/sharing at a future writer's night, but I probably need a bigger tea pot than these ones. Still, for someone who lives alone these will probably come in useful.
