Jun. 22nd, 2009 11:20 amOne of my projects for the weekend was to replace or fix my computer chair. One of the plastic wheels broke on it months and months ago, and I've been using a folding chair since. I pulled off another of the wheels so that I could take it with me when I go to find another one, and immediately I saw a problem. Most of the office chair plastic wheels/casters that I'm familiar with come with the steel post attached, and this slides into the base. This particular chair has the posts attached to the base, and the wheel slides onto the post. I'm not sure if they make wheels like that anymore.
The chair was made in 1985. The company that made it is in Texas. As far as I can tell they still exist, but they don't have any web site. I doubt I can order a wheel from them. In any case, it's looking more and more like just replacing it would be far easier to do, even though I always liked the chair.
If Boeing Surplus was still around I would just drop by there and buy a cheap chair. I went through Craig's list but didn't see anything that grabbed me. But while I was there, I looked at shelves too.
I have eight bookshelves in my computer room. Six of these are only about 3' or 4' high. They take up a lot of room. It's occurred to me that if I replaced a couple of them with taller bookshelves, I could take some of them out and create more space.
Anyway, I found a 6' bookshelf (more or less Ikea style) for sale for $8 in Puyallup, so I drove down there and picked it up. It barely fit in my car but I was able to bring it back home. I'm still trying to figure out how to rearrange things. I think I need two more about the same size before I can do any radical rearranging and get rid of all the half height bookshelves.
It was stormy on my drive. Thunder and lightning, and sudden downpours. Fun stuff.
