I bought a few fairly cheap Jackie Chan movies a while back off of Amazon.com. I watched one last week that I'd seen before -- City Hunter. It's a movie that is short on plot, high on action, and exceptionally high on silly slapstick, so much so that a lot of people don't really like it, but I think it's good fun. ^_^

Tonight I watched a different sort of film, Heart of a Dragon, which is also a Jackie Chan film but is directed by and co-starring Sammo Hung. Yet despite the fact that Sammo is nearly as brilliant a movie martial artist as Jackie, you won't see him throw a single punch in this film. Sammo plays Jackie's mentally disabled brother, who has the intelligence of a preschool or first grade child. The story is mostly a drama where Jackie both loves his brother and hates him -- he wants to marry, he wants to be a merchant seaman, but he is the only one who can take care of his brother.

Naturally since we're talking about Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung, there are still some action sequences, and a 20-minute fight at the end, but elsewhere the film is much more serious drama than action film. It's a kind of Hong Kong Rain Man, with a side of action.

It's not a bad film, and for once the cop who decides to go rogue and kill a bunch of bad guys to save someone actually has to pay for his actions. That's not something you see in the world of action film, where it's generally understood that every cop has to go rogue and kill a ton of bad guys once in a while.
