I got a profit sharing check from WOSCA last Saturday.
That's right. The company that I used to work for turned a profit three years after going out of business. More specifically, they had money left over when all was said and done, and like the good non-profit organization they always were, they split the money between the customers and employees.
So I actually got a good sum of money, a bit more than I normally get in one paycheck. Add this to the $450 they sent me at the begining of the month which was a final payout from the 401k plan... it's been a pretty nice month for me. ^_^
Sunday I went and bought a mattress. This was something I was planning to do anyway, but I might have gone the extremely cheap route except that I didn't have to. What I bought was still reasonably priced ($360) and seemed like a really nice mattress, comes with a foam pillow cushion on top (it's part of the mattress -- but nice and soft).
They'll be delivering that on Saturday.
My other major goals would be to recharge my car's air conditioner, but really I should buy new tires first. Having an air conditioner that doesn't work isn't likely to cause me to fly off the road, but having bad tires might.
Saturday I also picked up the Versus book for Neverwinter Night campaign building. Already it's proven both useful and not as useful as what I learned online... they don't take a very professional approach (to naming variables and tags and the like, for example) so in some ways the tutorials that you can get online, which are written after all by the game designers themselves, are more thorough. And in other ways, the Versus book explains simple stuff that the game designers didn't realize needed to be explained, so it's good to have.
And I bought some clothes... socks and a pair of jeans shorts. I wanted some black levis but settled for blue lee brand... I wasn't in the mood to drive from store to store to store until I found what I wanted, so I only checked Fred Meyers and Sears.
Today before work I spent a little money. I figured I was entitled to it. ^_^ Even though I don't want to just spend all of my bonus check on frivilous stuff... I picked up two more Card Captor Sakura dvds, then I hit Fun-Key Computers and CompUSA. I got a 256mb pc100 memory chip for my backup computer, two cheap fans, an 8-port ethernet hub, and... well, I guess that was pretty much it.
I've already installed the memory and an extra fan into my backup computer (which I'm using at the moment). Everything went in fine, but when the computer did a memory check and when I check out the system from the control panel, it still says I have 384mb memory. I don't understand that... I have a 256 and two 128's in there. Maybe one of the 128's is loose? Do I need to have them in a certain order? Is there something I don't know to do or check?
So anyway... I really only have three computers networked at present, but I wanted to have more than four at some point so an 8-port hub sounded like a cool idea, and if we ever decide to have a lan party over here it will be useful for that too. I have my main and backup computers networked, and my laptop. My goals for my computer room now are:
1. Need more lighting... track lighting, perhaps.
2. Want to hook up the 33mhz machine I got from my dad and look at it just to see what's there... I may eventually scrounge the drives and case for a faster computer, but in some ways it appeals to me to have a working dinosaur like that in my computer room.
3. Fix my old computer... think that one is a 133mhz. I think the drive is dead, but I need to find out for sure. I hate the case it's in... really a piece of junk, the way it's designed. I want to make it work again, or scrounge what I can for a better computer... not that I really need another, but I'll find a reason for it later.
Maybe I'll just buy a cheap bare bones system and see if I have enough parts lying around to make it work.
4. I also want to network my Linux machine. I've been told it's a pain to try and get a Linux box to network with Windows machines, but I want to do it anyway.
5. I need to install a few other things, like the mouse Mike gave me and the tablet Sky bought me (two years ago).
6. Oh yeah... need a couple of power strips, a power supply chord, maybe a new keyboard, in order to hook up and test out my junky machines here.
Anyway, think I'll go watch some Sakura now.
