The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men...

...who pays attention to mouse plans anyway?
My plan this weekend was to clean up. This is generally one of my plans every weekend, but in particular this weekend is the weekend before my friends from Alaska and Australia show up and spend the night just before we fly to Chicago for MFF, so I wanted to clean the place up for sure.
Instead, I'm somehow roped into driving to a stranger's house in Kent and hanging out for four hours, and I'm expected to go back again today.
This stranger is someone Nara and I met in Second Life two weeks ago, completely by accident. We were hanging out at our house when the sim went down. When we logged back in we were teleported to a newbie welcome area, because our current sim was still down. When we got there, we met someone named Saros and started up a conversation, and became friends. Although this person said yesterday that he doesn't really believe in coincidences.
Less than two weeks later, Saros is building furry costume tails for Nara and Ali to take with them to Chicago. Saros, or Legend as he calls himself, is a local furry guy who does a lot of costuming, and really he has some pretty cool tricks for producing furry costumes. This is not someone who simply talks a good game, he then goes out and does it. So I was at his place yesterday, along with several other young gay furry types (technically I've only been told that one of them is gay, but I'm extrapolating a little). He has an amazing sound system, that he demonstrated for me, complete with an incredible sub woofer. He has a keyboard synthesizer computer setup that is also incredibly impressive. He's a pretty good piano player and played some music that he's been composing, but one of the other house residents was the real piano talent.
Anyway I don't even know for sure what I was doing there, except that he's building these tails and hasn't even agreed to be paid anything, and even though they're not for me I'm kind of an accessory to the fact, being the close friend who lives in the area, and me being there is kind of a good will thing I suppose. I mean, I really didn't do any of the work, I just watched. But since he's going to so much trouble for one of my friends, it's only fair that I go and hang out for moral support, or whatever it is I'm doing. I'm the ambassador of friendship, or something.
He used to be a Tai-Pan subscriber too. But I don't know his real name. As far as furry households go, it wasn't really that bad... meaning it wasn't completely clean but I've seen much, much, much worse. Sometimes in my own place. :p
Today I'm supposed to go back up there, but first my old roommate Tom is dropping by, which is cool because he's the person who would really grok on the costume design work and television/stereo entertainment system that Legend showed me. I'll drag him along on my return trip.
Nara said not to worry about cleaning up, they'd help me when they got here. As if. I clean up because I'm having friends over -- I don't have the friends over to help me clean up!
