At the Con

miko2I got up Thursday morning, showered, and made breakfast. I made more than we needed -- pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, tea, orange juice. It turned out that Nara and Ali hadn't gotten any sleep the night before in Alaska so they were really tired and had a hard time getting up, but we just managed to eat before the Shuttle Express showed up.
I'm thinking now that calling Shuttle Express was a bad idea. It cost me about $55.00 for the three of us, more than it costs to have them pick you up in the Seattle area, and I'll have to pay them to take me back Sunday night when I come home. I believe I could have parked cheaper, now that I think about it.
Anyway I scheduled them extra early because their web site said a 9:30 pickup wouldn't get us to the airport until 11:00 am, but actually we were the only passengers on this trip so they got us there sooner than that -- and as it turned out, our flight was delayed about an hour, all Chicago flights were. genebreshears, miertam, skyoxford and jwyldragon arrived and hung out with us -- as did a few other furry types, including artist werepuppy and jurann.
Anyway we got to Chicago, Gene had a My Chauffer limo for their group. We took All Star taxi which was a flat $24.00 fee, very cheap. I didn't see Gene or the others again. We got to the hotel, settled in, and went wandering, got registered. I didn't find Gene's group so I called their room from the front desk, but they weren't in. I left a message saying where our room was. I had hoped to hook up with them for dinner but we ran into some other people from Prometheus (the island sim where my SL character lives) and we went to the Olive Garden with them.
Later Nara checked his cell phone in the room. He had Gene's cell number so we called. It sounded like they were out somewhere, but they wanted to practice the radio play (of course) so I was expecting them to call back when they got in, but we never got a call. In the meantime we wandered some more, talked to people, then came back to the room and watched Galaxy Quest on my computer, and a few videos from the Toy Dolls. I have a Toy Dolls dvd that is Region 5 I think -- it doesn't play on my dvd player, so this was the first time I'd watched anything on it.
Today's the first official day of the con! Gene and the others should have the table set up this morning, and we have the reading this evening at 5pm. I'll have to check my schedule to see what else I want to do today, but first thing this morning I got hooked up to the internet so I could check things out and post an entry. ^_^ We're here!
