I've been in an alt country/bluegrass mood lately. I'm not sure exactly what started it. I had read some reviews in Dirty Linen that made me decide to order a couple of cds (the new Duhks cd, and a cd by Crooked Still). I heard a review of The Be Good Tanyas on NPR that made me decide to order that cd. I also have heard several reviews of the new Dixie Chicks cd, and while I've never followed them, after hearing some of the vitrol hurled against them and even hearing one of my normally very level-headed coworkers (who usually stands up for independent women and despises George Bush) talk about how "they can't sell any of their albumns anymore because we don't want 'em"... well, I decided I had to buy their new cd as sort of my own protest against the idiots. Anyway it's a good cd and the band is doing just fine, thank you. ^_^

All of this kind of conspired to fuel a little more alt country/bluegrass purchasing, because I was in the mood to hear this kind of music, so I picked up the new cds by The Meat Purveyors and Freakwater. I've been listening to all of this for the last couple of weeks, along with other stuff I already own in a similar vein... Loretta Lynn's last cd, Nickel Creek, Split Lip Rayfield, Abagail Washburn, Killbilly, some Indigo Girls, some Walkabouts, and Gillian Welch. I still only have the one Gillian Welch cd, I should probably get some more of her.

And naturally I now want to make a compilation cd of the best of all of this stuff. ^_^
