Today's Song: O Valencia! by The Decemberists

I don't own any cds by The Decemberists... yet. They're high on my list of things to pick up immediately. I had originally heard their most recent cd reviewed on NPR, and they sounded like the kind of alternative pop band with cleverly written lyrics that I really go for... kind of like The Shins, perhaps, only not really. But I've bought cds based on reviews before and they aren't always as cool as you were convinced they would be. (Come to think of it, though, I discovered The Shins after hearing a review on NPR I think).

Anyway after downloading O Valencia! on iTunes and listening to it for a week, I'm more than convinced that this is a very cool band. It doesn't hurt to know, as I posted last night, that Laura Veirs appears on their recent cd as well. Laura also writes very cool lyrics. And both hail from Portland, OR. ^_^


O Valencia! is a song about star-crossed lovers from feuding families:

This is a song that tells a story, and you have to listen to the whole song to get the whole picture. Most of the songs by The Decemberists are story songs, from what I've read. Their website is one of the most clever that I've seen in a very long time... as your mouse hovers over each link, you're treated to a little movie. You have to give each several seconds to be sure you've seen it all. In addition, you can listen to two of their songs there, and O Valencia! is one of them, so if you're at all interested go check it out.

Besides, how can you not like a band that "travel exclusively by Dr. Herring's Brand® Dirigible Balloons"?

Goals:

Walking: I managed a half hour walk yesterday. I've only walked 2 of 4 days this week so far though.
Food: Made a lunch/dinner of salmon patty and vegetables. I've done that 3 of 4 days this week and should manage it today as well. I was bad last week during the con and so I need to be extra good now.
Money: Bought music on iTunes, and also a couple of cds. So, I guess that wasn't doing so good. But I avoided buying an iPod docking station... so far. And I did my taxes.
Writing: Haven't gotten very much written in the last 4 days.
Gaming: Got my CoH character Mouse Police to level 50 last night. ^_^ Hey, that's important! Really!
