Today's Song: Living in the Past by The Connells
After talking about The Shins and Death Cab For Cutie yesterday (okay, I posted about it just a few minutes ago, but I backdated it to yesterday so that counts ^_^ ) it only seems natural to discuss one of my all-time favorite alternative pop rock bands, the Connells hailing from Athens, GA.
Inexplicably, you can download virtually nothing from this brilliant band on iTunes, so I wasn't planning to reccomend anything of theirs as a song of the day. However! Check this out: on their web site you can listen to two full-length tracks of theirs, available as free mp3 downloads.
Allow me to repeat that. FREE DOWNLOADS:
Living In The Past
Maybe
Both of these songs come highly reccomended by me, especially Living in the Past, a brilliant cover of a Jethro Tull tune. If you don't know how to save these to disc, go to their web site, click on the music tab (link provided), and right-click on the links to the two songs and "save link as". Or if you own a Mac, do the same thing however you do it on a Mac. ^_^
There! You don't even have to buy anything! What's stopping you?
Take a listen to '74-'75 on Youtube and you'll see how they compare to Death Cab for Cutie (I Will Follow You Into The Dark) or the Shins (Saint Simon). Probably The Connells don't have the same hyper-clever lyrics of the other two bands, and perhaps that's why they never achieved great success, but they made great pop music for many years. Heck, this kind of stuff even compares well to classic pop from the 60's such as Bus Stop by the Hollies.
